Growing Through Community Support
At FKC, we believe meaningful education grows best in community. We are incredibly grateful for the grants and financial support that allow us to expand programs, invest in resources, and create enriching experiences for our students. Each award represents not just funding, but trust in our mission and belief in the families we serve.
Why Grants Matter
Grants help us strengthen and expand our offerings without increasing the financial burden on families. Through this support, we are able to:
• Enhance classroom materials and curriculum
• Support specialty classes and enrichment programs
• Invest in hands-on learning experiences
• Provide scholarships when possible
• Grow sustainably for the future
Grant Awards
✨Vela Education Grant
Awarded: $10,000
Purpose: Outdoor Classroom Pavilion (Completed 2025)
In 2025, FKC was honored to receive a $10,000 grant from Vela Education to build a dedicated outdoor classroom pavilion. This new structure allows us to expand our nature-based and experiential learning opportunities in all seasons.
The pavilion will officially begin serving students in Spring 2026 and will provide a covered space for classes, community gatherings, and hands-on instruction in our outdoor learning environment.
This project marks a major milestone in the continued growth of FKC.

🌱Ag in the Classroom Grant
Awarded: $500
Purpose: Gardening Class Support
We received $500 through Ag in the Classroom to support our gardening program. These funds help provide supplies and materials that allow students to experience the full cycle of planting, cultivating, and harvesting.
Our gardening class continues to be a cornerstone of hands-on learning at FKC, connecting students to the land and teaching stewardship, responsibility, and practical life skills.

🥩 Virginia Beef Council – “Beef Up Your Health” Grant
Awarded: $250
Purpose: Culinary Program Supplies
Through the Virginia Beef Council’s “Beef Up Your Health” grant, FKC received $250 to expand our culinary education program. This funding will be used to build a shared culinary supply resource that supports all co-op classes.
This year, our teen cooking classes included a special focus on beef while teaching essential kitchen skills, nutrition education, and meal preparation. The grant strengthens our ability to continue practical life-skill education for our students.
